Renee Patrick's primary research interests focus on children鈥檚 and adolescents鈥 sociomoral development and parenting. She has conducted research on parental monitoring, helicopter parenting, discipline techniques (induction, power assertion, love withdrawal), moral identity, empathy-based guilt, moral reasoning, antisocial and prosocial behavior (e.g., bullying, active defending against bullying) and social media use. Her research has also addressed topics relating to adult development and aging. As a part of her research, she has adapted two psychological measures for use: The Perceived Parental Discipline Questionnaire (PPDQ) and the Moral Self-Relevance Measure (MSR).
As service learning coordinator for the Department of Psychology, she has assisted faculty and students by working with community organizations to set up and maintain volunteer partnerships.听 Patrick also partners with community organizations and schools to provide students with PSY408 internship opportunities that relate to applied developmental psychology.
Patrick has worked as a psychometrician (administering/scoring psychological tests and doing behavioral observations of children) at Nationwide Children鈥檚 Child Development and Autism Centers in Ohio. She also has experience in the field of social work with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program.
