Career Specialties

Kim explores the relationships between human and nonhuman bodies in contemporary French and Francophone media, examining how their physical boundaries are transcended with or without technology. She is currently expanding her research to include Franco-Korean and Japanese media.

Professional and Community Activities

Her book project, 鈥淔rom M茅li猫s to Ducournau: Transhumanist Bodies in French Cinema,鈥� investigates transhumanism in French cinema, a philosophical movement that has long engaged with nonhuman bodies, beginning with the early films of Georges M茅li猫s. Her articles have been published in peer-reviewed journals such as 脡tudes Francophones, Early Popular Visual Culture, and Alternative Francophone. Her most recent work on medical humanities, 鈥淒e Humani Corporis Fabrica (2022): Dissecting the Hospital with the 鈥楰ino-Eye,鈥欌�� was published in L鈥檈sprit cr茅ateur (Johns Hopkins University Press). Currently, she is working on a book chapter on Alain Guiraudie's Misercordia (2024), and a research article on Jean Rouch's Jaguar (1967).
