General
What are disciplinary outcomes?
Students and Registered Student Organizations found responsible for violating the Student Code of Conduct may be assigned one or more disciplinary outcomes. Disciplinary outcomes are intended to promote accountability, learning, personal growth and the well-being of the University community while addressing the nature and severity of the misconduct.
Disciplinary outcomes consist of two components:
Standard Disciplinary Status – A student's official disciplinary standing with the University based on the nature and severity of the misconduct. Standard Disciplinary Status includes:
- Disciplinary Warning
- Disciplinary Probation
- Deferred Suspension
- Suspension
- Expulsion
Additional Disciplinary Outcomes – Educational, restorative, accountability, safety, residential or administrative actions that may be assigned to address the specific circumstances of the misconduct and support student learning and behavioral growth.
What is the purpose of disciplinary outcomes?
СÓÅÊÓƵ utilizes a developmental and educational approach to disciplinary outcomes that promotes accountability, learning, personal growth and the well-being of the University community. Disciplinary outcomes are designed to address the nature and severity of misconduct while providing meaningful opportunities for students to reflect on their behavior, repair harm when appropriate and make informed decisions in the future.
What are interim actions?
Interim actions are temporary measures that may be implemented by the Office of Student Conduct before a student conduct matter has been resolved. They are separate from disciplinary outcomes and are intended to protect the safety and well-being of individuals and the University community, preserve the integrity of the student conduct process or minimize disruption to University operations.
How will I know if I have been assigned disciplinary outcomes?
Following the resolution of a student conduct matter, students receive an outcome letterÌýthrough Advocate, which is delivered to their University email account.
The outcome letter includes:
- Your Standard Disciplinary Status (if assigned)
- Any Additional Disciplinary Outcomes
- Descriptions of each assigned outcome
- Completion deadlines
- Instructions and attachments, when applicable
When are disciplinary outcomes due to be completed?
Students should refer to their outcome letter for the completion deadlines associated with each assigned disciplinary outcome. Deadlines vary depending on the type of outcome but are generally due within one to four weeks of the date the outcome letter is issued. Students who anticipate difficulty meeting a deadline should contact the Office of Student Conduct as soon as possible.
