The Hazing Prevention Team (HPT) is an essential initiative to foster a safe and supportive campus environment. Through collaboration, education and proactive policy enforcement, this team will work to eliminate hazing and promote a culture of respect and accountability across all student organizations. With the support of key campus offices and stakeholders, the HPT will play a crucial role in safeguarding student welfare.Ìý
Purpose:
The Hazing Prevention Team (HPT) is being formed to proactively address, prevent and respond to hazing incidents on campus. Hazing undermines the well-being, safety and inclusion of students, particularly within student organizations such as fraternities, sororities, RSO’s and athletic/club teams. This team will work collaboratively to promote education, create preventive strategies, and ensure compliance with University and legal policies regarding hazing.

Establishing a hazing prevention team is an important step toward creating a safer and more supportive campus environment. By bringing together staff from various departments, this team will centralize our efforts, foster collaboration and ensure a cohesive University-wide approach to hazing prevention. Many Florida colleges and universities have adopted similar models, recognizing the value of uniting resources to address this critical issue. This initiative reflects our commitment to student well-being and positions the University as a leader in promoting a culture of care and accountability.
In addition to taking a more comprehensive approach to hazing awareness and education, the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate have passed the Stop Campus Hazing Act, which will bring new regulations to colleges and universities. By forming this Hazing Prevention Team, we will take a proactive approach to aligning with these new regulations that will be coming into effect soon.
