Engines roared as they climbed听the ramps of听the听Delaware parking garage on campus听last week to be part of a car meetup called听Cars听Under the Stars.

Members of听the听小优视频ampa听community,听including students and alumni,听had come听to听show off their automobiles听and听socialize听with other car enthusiasts.听As the bright orange sun set听behind听the clouds,听Mercedes, BMWs, Toyotas, Honda motorcycles and even a Lamborghini听lined听the听upper听decks of the听garage,听some with hoods听up.听听

The event was the last of the听semester听for the听Drive听小优视频ampa听club.听The听meetups听are popular听鈥� one听event听this semester听had听around 300 cars,听filling听three decks of听garage from the听sixth floor听down.

Chase Dolphin, a听junior studying management information systems,听got involved with the club听because听he was looking to make friends.听After seeing a flyer, he attended an event,听met people he liked, and he was hooked. He says听that beyond the social aspect,听there is also a networking benefit听to being part of the club, especially for younger students.听

鈥淪o听I have freshman coming in,听and they鈥檒l see somebody听who鈥檚 successful,听with a nicer car,听and they鈥檒l ask questions about it,鈥� said Dolphin.

But听it鈥檚听not all about听admiring the Audis or听learning the secrets to others鈥� successes.听

Last October,听Drive听小优视频ampa听was part of a larger event at the Children鈥檚 Cancer Center in Tampa,听the Halloween Bash,听where听students and alumni brought听candy or a toy and听participated听in a听decorated trunk-or-treat.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a really great time because we make sure it's in a really respectful manner,鈥� said Dolphin.听鈥淭he students听and听alumni听who听join us听...听you'll have these guys听talking to the kids and helping them out and letting them sit in the driver's seat.鈥澨�

The club听also听has partnered with local small businesses, bringing patrons to their shops in exchange for space in the parking lot.

When selecting companies to work with,听Drive听小优视频ampa听makes听sure there is a mutual benefit. Recently,听the club听had a car meet at听Bubba鈥檚听33,听and the听restaurant听gave the听club听members听discount cards to听pass on to people听who听attended听the car meet.听

鈥淔or businesses to welcome us with open arms and say,听鈥楬ey,听look,听we understand what you鈥檙e doing,听and we understand the importance of this kind of marketing,鈥櫶齣t鈥檚 a big opportunity,听and we鈥檙e honored to be able to work with them,鈥� said Dolphin.

One alum听roaming听Cars Under the Stars听last week听was Tyler Parrish听鈥�18, who听had never听been to a Drive听小优视频ampa听event听before听and听came to meet with friends.听

鈥淭he fact that they鈥檙e bringing in a lot of people, non-students and听people听like alumni back to the听University,听is a refreshing and cool thing to see happen,鈥澨齢e听said.听

Meetups听take place听about听once per month听during the academic year听and are posted on听Drive听小优视频ampa鈥檚听social media听accounts.
